Instructor Biographies

Marie Kellett, 5th Dan

I started training in 1974. The reason I started was purely to learn self defense as I was bullied at school. So I went along with a school friend. She stopped after a few weeks, and I certainly never expected to still be training years later.

When Sensei lived in London, the main strong group was in the London/Southampton area, and Wales at the time was not very good technically. So on a regular basis a few times a month, some of us drove to London straight after work to join the training session where Sensei was.

When Sensei came to Wales for courses, he would usually stay for a week and on top of the evening club sessions and weekend course I would hire a room where I was lucky to train with Sensei in a one to one for two hours each day. Over the years the Wales group did gradually raise the level and at last Sensei had some hope for us.

Since those years I have attended many courses in the UK and overseas with and without Sensei, and I feel lucky to have had such an opportunity to practice and meet with different clubs and people.

Jeremy Crook, 5th Dan

Jeremy is the President of American KDS. He was born in Colorado and has lived in Idaho, Utah, Washington, England, Louisiana and Oregon. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in Hebrew from Brigham Young University, and a master's degree in Adult and Organizational Learning from the University of Idaho. Jeremy has studied various martial arts for over 40 years (including Kendo), and joined Harada Sensei's KDS as a founding member of the first USA club in 1994. He was awarded his 5th Dan by Harada Sensei in Wales, UK in 2016. Jeremy oversees all organizational operations for AKDS, and travels to teach nationwide. He instructs at his personal dojo in Springfield, Oregon.

Simon began practicing with the KDS at the Durham, England University Club in 1989, and most recently received his 4th Dan in 2019.
